Sun tea is a great way to make custom drinks for that hot summer day. The kids can help and it's really quite good for you. You can add as much or as little to it as you like, and there are few preservatives. It's just plain good. Experiment with the kinds of teas you make it with. Sun Tea

Serves: 2 quarts       Total Time: 3 to 5 hours

  • 1 clear glass pitcher, at least 2 quart
  • 6 to 8 bags of tea, I use Orange Pekoe
  • 2 quarts of filtered water (tap will do too)
  • a sunny spot on the deck or in the house
that stays in direct sunlight for at least
    3 to 5 hours
  • lemon wedges, fruit, and sugar to taste

Step 1
Fill the pitcher with water.
Step 2
Place the tea bags into the water. Place lid onto pitcher or cover it with plastic wrap.
Step 3
Set the pitcher in a sunny spot where it can steep in direct sunlight for 3 to 5 hours. Let it steep for a minimum of 3 hours and a maximum of 5.
Step 4
When your tea has steeped, you may remove the tea bags if you like. Add sugar and fruit or lemon juice and wedges to flavour the tea to your preference. Stir well.
Step 5
Store, refrigerated, for up to 3 days.
Summer is finally here! (She says after it snowed three days earlier) To kick off summer right, you need to have a big pitcher of homemade Sun Tea. It's super easy, very tasty and goes great with everything. Okay, it's schmancy iced tea that you let steep for what seems like ever... But the results? Beautiful!
