Baked On The Grill
Mozzarella Sticks with Spicy Marinara
- 6 mozzarella flavoured cheese string snacks
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp. flour
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1 tbsp. parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp. Bone Dust BBQ Seasoning and Rub
- 1 tbsp. peanut oil
- ½ cup of your favourite marinara sauce,
Cut each of the cheese sticks in half and place them in the freezer until frozen solid.
Preheat your grill to 400°F and prepare for indirect grilling.
Place flour into a shallow bowl.
In another shallow bowl, beat the egg.
In a last shallow dish, place the breadcrumbs, bone dust and parmesan cheese. Combine well.
Coat the Stainless Steel Griddle with the oil.
Take each piece of cheese string and individually coat in flour, followed by the egg, and then the crumbs. Re-dip the coated cheese in the egg wash and again into the crumb mixture.
Repeat this process with all of the cheese sticks, then place the griddle over the “off” side of the grill.
Let the Mozzarella Sticks grill bake for two to three minutes, letting the bottoms become crisp. Then flip them so that the other side can do the same, allowing them to grill bake until golden and gooey. Watch them in the last minute or so, you don’t want them to start oooozing.
Serve immediately with spicy marinara or salsa.
I remember my first experience with Mozzarella Sticks. I was in Florida with my grandmother, doing Disney for the very first time. We had just had a fabulous day and decided that some room service was in order. She ordered these things I had never heard of and I ordered something quite mundane like a burger and fries. The food showed up and I took one bite and fell in love. Who could not love a crunchy, cheesy, gooey bite that stretched when you ate it! We had a cheese stretching contest, how far could you stretch your first bite before it broke!
These Mozza-sticks are a little lighter. Instead of deep frying them, I baked them on the grill using the Stainless Steel Griddle. Served with a spicy marinara for a kick, these little bites were sooo good and super easy to make.
