Baking Scones on the BBQ

Baking Scones on the BBQ

An Easy Recipe For Homemade Scones

Posted on July 03, 2018

After enjoying the amazing Scones from COBS Bread I sort-of became obsessed. When the call went out at the office that we were having a potluck breakfast, I KNEW what I had to do! Scones! Scones with fresh, homemade Jam! Now the weather outside, when I needed to bake these fresh scones was a whopping 46°F (around 115°F) so there was no way I was going to bake indoors, our poor air conditioner was working hard enough. So I decided on baking these Scones on the BBQ.

Grill Baked Corn Muffins

Grill Baked Corn Muffins

With Yogurt and Honey

You can’t have a great barbecue without Grill Baked Corn Muffins to go along with it. I’ve been leery of making cornbread/corn muffins since I have about a 50% success rate when it comes to victoriously baking this beautiful barbecued side dish. They’re either perfection incarnate – like these ones – or resemble a dried out kitchen sponge. This recipe is easy, quick, and yields results that are undeniably delicious. Try this no-fail recipe today for your next cookout. You won’t be disappointed.

Bone Dust

BBQ Seasoning

Really this is a Ted Reader signature seasoning. If you’re really lucky and see him live at a show like the Cottage Life show, then you can go to his booth and buy some. BUT when you run out and need more, here is the recipe to make it yourself.

I always keep a supply of this on hand. A nice big jar will last for ages, and it is ideal for putting in and on pretty much anything you can imagine.

Gilroy Roasted Garlic Paste

Gilroy Roasted Garlic Paste

Ideal for everything!

Posted on May 09, 2017
If you haven’t noticed, I love Garlic. A LOT.  Ted Reader’s Gilroy Roasted Garlic Paste takes delicious and mellow roasted garlic and turns it into a saucy spread that you can use on just about anything. You can also use it IN just about everything too! Use it as a wet grill rub, add it to sauces and dressings, you can even use it AS a dressing! You can also use it in sandwiches, even as an extra umami boost in soup and gravy too. Gilroy Roasted Garlic Paste is a delicious way to get a little extra garlic into everything!

Vegan Zucchini Bread

Vegan Zucchini Bread

Gluten Free, Egg Free, Dairy Free

Posted on April 18, 2017
It’s difficult, in this day and age, to make something that absolutely everyone can eat. That’s where this Vegan Zucchini Bread comes in. It’s gluten free, egg free, and dairy free, much like my recipe for Allergen Free Muffins. Although this zucchini bread is a bit on the dense side, it’s still pretty awesome. If you want to make this using eggs instead, make sure to beat the eggs very well, it will lighten the recipe up significantly, creating a very fluffy version of this quick bread.

Farmstead Sourdough Bread

Farmstead Sourdough Bread

How to make sourdough starter

Posted on March 29, 2017

I don’t know if you noticed, but I am a little obsessed with sourdough bread. Farmstead Sourdough Bread is possibly the best thing you will ever create. If you love bread, and sourdough, as much as I do, then having an endless supply available is going to be the greatest thing ever. I mean, I am already counting down the minutes until I can make more.

I was blessed with a gift. A friend of mine bestowed upon me some of her own starter, which she has been cultivating for seventeen years! SEVEN-TEEN-YEARS! I was given instructions that were fairly basic. No metal shall touch the starter or it will be kaput (metal kills the bacteria). Keep it in the fridge, feed once per week with 1:1 water and flour. Pull the starter out 24 hours before you want to bake, keep at room temperature for those 24 hours, and feed it after you have used the starter to bake.

Gumbo Pizza

Gumbo Pizza

Cajun chicken, sausage, and shrimp pizza

Posted on March 21, 2017
This recipe is kind of funny. I walked into the kitchen without a plan. The thing I wanted to make had fallen through because of one missing ingredient. Digging through the freezer I found some pizza dough (I know cheater!), next to that was some sausage, chicken, and shrimp. Sure I could ignore the pizza dough, and make a delicious gumbo, but what’s the fun in that when I could make Gumbo Pizza?!

Guinness Mac & Cheese

Guinness Mac & Cheese

Beer made it better!

Posted on March 14, 2017
I’m not a huge fan Guinness. It’s a little too thick and bold for me to enjoy as a beverage, however, adding it to recipes like my Guinness Cheesecake, Guinness BBQ Sauce, and other recipes adds a richness that is quite delightful. Adding Guinness to macaroni and cheese added this new depth of flavor that makes this Guinness Mac & Cheese the best macaroni and cheese ever. (Yes I know I say this with every new Mac & Cheese recipe, but I mean it this time!)
