It is mid-afternoon on a Tuesday, when I get a text. My friend is in town and wants to come for a visit. Naturally I ask if she wants dinner. (Me and my big texting fingers) But what do I make? I haven’t got a heck of a lot in the fridge and certainly was not prepared for guests. But, from the few things on hand, came a delicious sandwich that rocked our worlds! … well our taste buds anyway.

This beauty of bread and meat mingling was invented around the 1930's in Philadelphia. Traditional cheeses used are Provalone, American and (shudder) Cheese Whiz. Cuts of beef used are generally rib-eye or top round.
Today we pay hommage to the majestic cheesesteak with this grilled version...All poetry and word-smithing aside, this sandwich of steak-tackular proportions is just epic, and there is plenty to go around!

Why is it when you go grocery shopping, you inevitably wind up hungry? While out getting supplies for the next round of barbecuing, I stumbled upon a charity type barbecue. Naturally hungry, because I was grocery shopping, I ordered a chicken burger. What I received was a chicken cutlet that had some sort of breaded coating on it. It felt a little greasy even though it was grilled. It was rather depressing, even if it was one of the better chicken burgers. I know you know the ones I am talking about. Those gross pressed, you hope its meat, patties covered in breaded coating and you have to drown it in ketchup to eat it. Cafeteria food, that seemed the bee’s knees when you were young but realize now is totally wrong.

So there you have it. Inspiration strikes once more, like a shovel to the back of your head. REAL chicken burgers. Immediately I set out to find a decent recipe and see what a real chicken burger was all about. This is what I found.

I was at the Tragically Hip concert in Bobcaygeon on Saturday. What a great show! The weather was not the greatest, but the food! OH the FOOD!  So much to choose from, and all of it great! One of the best things there was the back bacon on a bun. Usually I would slap an egg and some cheese with back bacon, or at least some hollandaise sauce, but this was some sort of barbecue sauced grilled heaven. I was bound and determined to find a recipe for it when I got home, and slept for most of the next day.
