With Roasted Garlic Rosemary Pesto

Posted on September 23, 2013
This was delicious. The green potatoes were a little freaky at first, but wow on the yum factor. I will definitely be rubbing my steaks again with pesto. What recipes have you tried that are adventurous, but turned out great? What about complete disasters? Tell us in the comments below!

Sultana’s Bacon Cheeseburgers

Sultana’s Bacon Cheeseburgers

With Old Cheddar, Monterey Jack & Havarti

Posted on September 18, 2013

Happy International Cheeseburger Day everyone!

To celebrate, how about making you and yours some fabulously cheesy cheeseburgers with three types of cheese, bacon and more bacon? Oh and a cheese bun! …Does that make it four kinds of cheese? Yeah. I took the rules and threw them on the porch last night, like Fred Flintstone putting out the sabre tooth tiger (very unceremoniously). These burgers are juicy and huge and delicious and GINORMOUS. But with the size of the buns they make at the bakery now, you have to make a huge burger.

Venison Stuffed Sweet Mini Peppers

Venison Stuffed Sweet Mini Peppers

With Vegetables & Rice

Posted on September 16, 2013
This ended up being amazing. And sure bags of mini-sweet peppers are expensive, but they’re SO SWEET, and the saltiness from the meat and soy sauce just set the whole thing off! Did I mention that this smelled just incredible?! This is a healthy way to get a quick meal in and feel good about eating it.

I wanted to put the last instruction as "Now hoard it all for yourself and don't tell anyone you made this delicious treat." But that would be unfair to the people who have not tasted this amazing treat. You remember that Beef Jerky I wrote about? It was phenomenal. This jerky has a little less pow on first contact, but has a robust taste that is subtle and addictive. I promised that I would give half of what was made to the person who kindly gifted the roast to me. But I can tell you that it was nearly impossible to divide it in half and harder still not to just eat it all. There was a lot of nibbling on this day.

Blazin’ Buffalo Sauce

Blazin’ Buffalo Sauce

Made From Real Buffalo!

Posted on September 12, 2013
Buffalo sauce is something that needs to be right, especially for those from Buffalo. Gourmands and people from Buffalo agree that if it ain’t right, it ain’t worth eating. So I have tried to make this as authentic and close to the real thing as I can get.

Great Grilled-Tatoes

Great Grilled-Tatoes

A Perfect Side for Meat

Posted on September 09, 2013
Is it possible for potatoes to be cute? 'Cause these ones were! All adorable and small, tasty and crunchy and tender - ohmygosh I want some right now! These turned out fantastic. I popped them on the warming rack of my portable grill while cooking up the Surf 'n'Turf, and just basted them with the butter-garlic mixture that I was basting everything else with. Surprisingly everything held its own distinct flavour and did not become mired in the same taste as you would think. Butter enhanced what I was doing and made these potatoes - which in turn made the meal.

Grilled Beef Tenderloin With Lobster Tails

Grilled Beef Tenderloin With Lobster Tails

Surf 'n' Turf

Posted on September 09, 2013

I love visiting my Grandmother-in-law. We have a fantastic time, and I am one of the privileged few that are allowed to use her kitchen. She loves it when I cook for her, I always make something different, and she always thoroughly enjoys it. This weekend's amazing meal was surf 'n' turf. Grilled beef tenderloin steaks with lobster tails basted with butter and garlic. Granny ate a whole steak, a lobster tail and had seconds on potatoes and veggies! This meal was very delicious, but a little pricy. Good beef costs money but it's totally worth it.

I was very lucky and got the lobster tails on sale. This will be the second official time that I have eaten lobster. Yes I know, I have it on the site, but I make it for others to enjoy. I just remember my first experience from my childhood. I was at daycare and only maybe two. The babysitter was having lobster for dinner and offered me a piece to try. I did not like the texture or the flavour and ran immediately for the garbage to spit it out. Really that was my first experience with seafood ever, and one that apparently scared me for life. (Therapy session much?) Anyway, I am working through it now, and had a very successful experience with the lobster tails. They're beefy for a seafood, a little on the rubbery side but something I will definitely try again.

Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

on The Grill

Posted on September 03, 2013
Like I said. I had to make this again pretty much right away. I added the balsamic mixture to give it a little pop, and allow the asparagus to blend nicely with the rest of the meal. I served them with Cajun Creole Crusted Pork Roast - A Recipe Club Newsletter exclusive recipe - and Balsamic Grilled Tomatoes. What a fantastic meal!

Balsamic Grilled Tomatoes

Topped With Feta

These were pretty good. But I fear they may have gotten a little overcooked while I was working on other parts of the dish. Not only were they bursting with flavour, well… mine kind of burst. So when you should take them off the grill, do it. And if you can, use a spoon to support it.

I know that last week I mentioned my personal attempt to go gluten and dairy free. You can get the cheese and the bread crumbs that are both gluten and dairy free! Some regular supermarkets even have whole aisles dedicated to gluten free foods! But the dairy is a little harder to come by. But this was a fantastic way to have my foods and eat them too!

Grilled Peppers

Grilled Peppers

Stuffed with Pulled Pork

So yeah. Gluten and dairy free-ish, rest assured I am not going to give up the meat! I found a butter substitute that I actually quite like, but I have to now go there with the cheese. I tried a brand and it was like a block of cheese whiz. So not appetizing, especially when I love a great cheddar and stuff. So. Recommendations there? I want to get as close to the real thing so I feel like I am not missing out. As for gluten free, I love to bake and cook (obviously) so I buy the gluten free flour and make my own stuff, that’s alright.

Have any of you given up something in your daily diet? How did it go? What was it? We would all love to hear your stories and pointers!
